When a broken aliases scan is completed, the results are displayed in a list in the Broken Aliases window.
The upper list in the Broken Aliases window is a list of the broken aliases found during the scan. The columns from left to right are:
Target
Marks items with an icon when a new target has been linked but not yet saved (green checkmark icon), or when targets are available but one has not been selected (empty circle).
Alias, Original
The alias’ icon, as well as the alias’ filename in the first row and the original target in the second row.
Repair Option
A pop-up menu that will display any of the following options:
Shown for all aliases. Display a standard file selection dialog to select a specific new target for this alias. Once this has been chosen for a particular alias that did not previously have potential targets, the specific target will be added to the menu and possible targets list.
Path to Alias, Original
Location of the alias in the first row, recorded location of the original in the second row.
Items in this list can be used to repair selected aliases in the list of broken aliases. Items can be added to the possible targets list by dragging them to the list from the Finder. Double-clicking an item in the list will automatically choose it as the new target of the selected alias.
There are several buttons in the broken aliases window. Unless otherwise noted, these buttons are only available when a single alias is selected.
Open the Find window and preset it to match the name and attributes of the original.
Ask for an item to set as the new target of the alias. This is equivelant to choosing from the Repair Option pop-up menu.
Search local volumes for items similar to the missing original.
Available with multiple aliases selected. Repair all of the aliases for which new originals have been set.
Available with multiple aliases selected. Cancel all new target selections and close the window.
